Women used preparations which included eye paint, powders, rouge and ointments for the body. The colours for cosmetic preparations came from various minerals. Green eyelid colouring was derived from turquoise or malachite, and black from lead sulphate. For outlining the eyes kohl manganese ore was used. Red ochre was used for lip colouring.
